Task 4

Thunder - Imagine dragons

From this task, I've been able to see the amount of time and effort that actually goes into making a music video as there where many shot types and editing that were used and this will help be me in my evaluation as it will allow me to pick the best institution for my music viedo.

Task 5

Imagine Dragons

Imagine dragons have a destructive style when it comes to their music videos, what i mean by this is that in most of their videos involved some sort of damage taking pace. Also they have a up beat up slow tune the tune isn't too slow to be a sad song or a love story but slow enough to flow with their destructive and upbeat style. After having a look at there website you see some conventions of a indie style band which i believe they they fit in this genre, it’s a mostly black and white based website it does have some colour but not enough to make any difference. Furthermore when I first saw the website I thought it to be a formal smart website this makes them come across as professional artists that know what they are doing as they have well done website it doesn't look childish or fun.

Mans wearing a mask and has a mysterious underneath

About page

Black and white colours only which give it that indie look also the professional look.

Moving onto their album covers mostly every album cover is a unique artistic look about personality their album covers seem to have a deeper meaning behind them, for example, the album cover with the old man sitting down with a mask lifting forwards from his face might suggest that everyone wears a mask and hides their true self. But again this leads will people to think that they are an indie band which they are. As the indie genre likes to be expressive and artistic with their work and love to have a story behind things.

in this task, I have chosen to look and at Indie rock photos and videos. I've looked at modern indie styles and the other indie styles from the ages to see what kind of style I would like to use in my music video also because I have compared these styles I feel confident on what I will be using.

From this task, i have a greter understanding on indie styles and how indie artists use there style to express them selfs, this will further help me to come up with my own indie style or a simple style in my planning stage.

by doing this task I have been able to see different influences of style in the indie genre and this will help me design my own costumes and style for my music video.

Task 6

Task 7

Task 8

CAROL Vernallis

Carol Vernalis is known for her theory based on music editing. I will be viewing her theory and apply it to actual music videos. carol vernallis theory is based on 4 key concepts that all relate to the way a music video is manufactured, these concepts are:

-narrative

-editing

-Camara movement and framing

-diegesis

Narrative

Carol vernaillis when describing her theory particularly the aspect, suggests that the video is a visual response to the narrative. Therefore whatever is happening onscreen reflects the choice of lyrics that the artist is singing. However, vernaillis then goes to say how the narrative may not always be completed and can be practiced with the video appearing disjointed, disconnected and appear in fragments. the video has something driving it forward but this may not necessarily by the narrative, it could the music itself or other elements in the video. However, if the video is left uncompleted it can lead to many questions about the narrative that won't always be answered throughout the video. Finally, although the video may have a theme or narrative, it is probably displayed in a montage style rather than in on clear

Editing

Carol vernaillis stats that a clear convention of music editing is that the video may disrupt or break the convention of continuity editing. the editing may also be brought to the foreground, become visible and not hidden apposed to the invisible style of continuity editing. meaning the video will have a style of editing running throughout that is distinctive to that video. For example, you may see jump cuts, breaks of the 30' degree rule, cutting with the lyrics, extreme changes in peace, juxtaposed frames and graphics matches.

Camera movement and framing

carol vernallis state that establishing shots are one of the key camera features of a music video and are used frequently throughout a music video as well as close up shots. the style of the framing of the video again is quite distinctive to the video and also the may move in time with the lyrics. extreme shots also known as master shots are also very common.

diegesis

in terms of media, the diegesis is the world of music video. Carol Versailles explains how the diegesis will be revealed quite slowly. the action in the video and some frames will appear more important than others due to the way they have been framed.

Task 9

Task 10

My target audience would be between 18-25 as this age range would be most likely in some form of education may that be college or university. the gender of my target audience would be male and female as both listen to indie music. They would be into creative arts and media studies, their hobbies would be skating going concerts. The females of my target audience would be highly into fashion and hipster clothes and the mail would have a  hipster look and he would and be into having out with friends and both genders would like to social.

Task 12

Task 13

Task 14

Digipacks

What is a digipak? Digipak - style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums. digipaks typically consist of a gatefold(book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one more plasitc tray capable holding a cd or DVD attached to the inside the generic "digipak" came to be used to describe all soft cd packaging. digipaks were first created by meadwestvaco, and their product, called more poular and be gan to be used by more manufacturers. Now in current times digipaks are very commom an very popular.

In imagining dragon's digipack they have an establishing show on their cover of a boy in the centre of a structure. The only text that I see on the cover is just the name of the band and the name of the album, however, the majority of the text is on the back of the digipak listing all the songs in the album. One of the song names that are listed is called on top of the world and this could connote that the boy is literally on top of the world free, however, another song title must hold a different meaning for example there is a song called demons and this may suggest that the boy isn't actually on top of the world to be happy and free but to escape he's daemons.

There is a distingue mode of address as the cover draws in the audience and think about why the boy is there and what it could symbolise. The digipak as a whole isn't really colourfull but this might indicate that this album is more serious and meaningful than the rest.

In Arctic monkeys digipack we can see that we have had a man smoking in the cover and the shot the shot type is a mid-shot. The fact that he's just there smoking shows the man is an ordinary guy just enjoying himself and this may imply that the arctic monkeys see themselves as orderly working-class men who aren't bigger than other people.

the text is really small to read but ot has the basic information on it for exsample the names of the songs and some lyrics. The clourler of the whole digi pack is a constant gray and this typical of a indie band to use dark couleres, the mode of adress is foced on the man on the cover as he's giving us dricet eye contact this cacties the audeices eye.

Form this task I have been able to see how artists sell themselves a digipak through there digipaks are an extension of band/artists personalities and this will further help me as I know what kind of style od didgiepak's I would like to use.

Gorillaz's digipak is very different and unual to other two I've looked at and i say this due to the fact that these is no sing of writing anywhere just photos of the anamted characters. But I like this as it has each of their faces on separate parts of the digipak giving them their own sence of identity using close up shots , the didipak is somewhat clolerful as the charteres have coulered skin, the cd is placed right in the centre of the digipak and this i would say is the mode of adress as the audience is drawn twards whats in the center and as there are no wireting on the digipack it give it that sence of mystry of what kind of music the cd holds.
